Are witches real and do they worship Satan?

Question by Jennifer: Are witches real and do they worship Satan?
I’m wondering because I read from the bible that witches are evil and I’m a christian, so I believed it. Are witches real, and are they all evil? If you’re a witch can you be a christian or something like that? Also, what exactly is a witch?

Witch’s are real but they don’t worship the devil. A witch can be a christian if they want to. A witch is someone that practices magic. I hope this helped.

Witch stems from the term Wicce and is femenine,Wicca is the male term.(derived from Old English)Despite protests from so called “wiccans” and cry baby “pagans” who want to wear their goodguy badges or pretend to be Glenda the good witch of the east, all magic and its practioners are wicked If you are of biblical persuassion,- any type of magical use is strictly forbidden,- from a true christian perspective anything to do with any type of sorcery or supernatural phenomena is truly evil. The bible clearly states’ thou shalt not suffer a witch to live”All witches, wiccans, wicce, warlocks, wizards and pagans serve Satan.

The kind with magic powers that can cast spells that actually work do not exist in reality. There are some people that call themselves witches(but they don’t have any magical powers),some do worship the mythical character known as Satan and others follow some form of pagan religion(many of this type follow a religion invented in the late 1800′s known as wicca).

Witta or Wicca is the traditional practice of witchcraft. The most important rule in Wicca/Witta is always, “As ye harm none, do as ye will.” Further in both Wicca/Witta there is the rule of three, which is basically that whatever you do to someone will come back to you threefold. That rule would make them very generous and loving because, to be anything else would be self-destructive.

People who worship Satan are called Satanists. That is an entirely different path.

Satanists worship Satan, but witches do not. Since Satan is partly of Christian theology, Satanists fall under the umbrella of being Christian. The term witch can refer to practitioners of different paths and need a narrower definition. One branch of paganism or neo-paganism is Wicca, which means witch. There are many types of witches but most, being pagan and not Christian, do not worship Satan, nor are they evil. Belief systems are not evil per se, but people can be and can distort any belief to suit their needs.

Because Wiccans (and other pagans) and Satanists use a similar symbol they are sometimes confused. One is a pentacle point up; the other a pentacle point down. Satanists have changed from their founding (Anton la Vey was the founder) and they are not necessarily evil either.

There are humans who believe that they are able to utilize paranormal energies and powers in order to alter or affect themselves. their environment, the people around them, or the sequence of natural or artificial events.
These humans may call themselves witches, Wiccans, psychics, aura readers, and may identify with any religion or no religion, etc. etc. ad nauseum, but the real truth of the matter is that despite all their claims and anecdotes, not one person has ever been able to show conclusive proof that their claims of “magic/k” are anything other than wishful thinking.
That may be hard to read – especially for people who persist in living in a fantasy, but it is the truth.

Witches are real but they are many things. I’ve definitely met witches who are not wiccans and who do not worship satan. Some in fact were/are Christians (including Catholics) with family traditions they don’t tell the priests about. Some are wiccans and no they don’t worship Satan either.

    Witches are not evil.
    They do not worship Satan.
    Satan is in Christian theology.
    Witches are real.
If you want to be a Christian Witch, go ahead. That’s your decision.
A Witch is someone who practices Witchcraft. All Magick is equal, so there is no black or white magick. The way the magick is used is completely on the person who used it.

Sort of like how Jews see Jesus as a prophet but not the son of god and Christians see Jesus as the son,
Witches acknowledge Satan, and see he has a purpose. One they interact with and don’t necessarily turn their backs to.
Satan is frequently mentioned, but most of the stereotype comes from other religions condemning it.

I believe that may be Satanism.

But being a Witch isn’t necessarily a religious belief, that may be more along the lines with Paganism.

Generalising… I don’t have the time (or knowledge on all religions involved) to get into it in full detail.

Witches are generally individual (male or female) who practice the art of witchcraft. Witchcraft has many forms and paths, some of these are obvious, others less so.

Some are used for personal gain or more immoral reasons (incorrectly called black magick) and some for aiding others (incorrectly called white magick).

In truth magick (spelt with a k to differentiate from stage magic) does not belong to colours. No magick is purely right or wrong, it is always neutral. The witch places their own twists on what they use.

Witches are NOT inherently evil, but with delusions of what witchcraft can be used for can obviously corrupt people. This is no different to any other form of power, real or imaginary.

A witch does not necessarily worship Satan, although some Satanists consider themselves witches.

A witch is generally a font of wisdom. The word witch is either latin or greek (can’t remember which sorry) for Wise and witchcraft essentially means ‘craft of the wise).

A Christian ‘can’ be a witch sure… But I fail to see the point in it. You would be condemning yourself to your own hell, as your own religious texts strictly forbid it. As such, whilst a Christian CAN practise it, I’d say no ‘true’ Christian would.

    >>pokes self<<

Yep, despite Mr. High Bearclaw Nurse of All Knowledge’s assertion that I am living in a fantasy land, I do appear to be entirely real. I could be imagining it, I suppose.

I don’t think I worship Satan. I don’t really worship much. But I can see how someone who thinks that you are either a worshipper of YHVH or a worshipper of Satan would think I was a Satan worshipper. Whatever.

I’m kind of grumpy, but I don’t think anyone would call me “evil” per se.

From my perspective, a witch is someone who studies and practices witchcraft (and has for some time. Picking up one book does not a witch make.)

Yes, witches are real and no they are not evil.

Witches are typically persons who practice magick- spelt with a ‘k’ to differentiate from the stage magi preformed by magicians. Magick is also a term that is commonly interchanged with witchcraft.

There are many religions that practice magick such as forms of paganism (Wicca, Shamanism). There are also many types of magick that are not associated with religion such as necromancy (controlling the dead), psychics, and of course, witches (male term is usually warlocks). This is no where near a full list of what witches are and what they can be. If you want a slightly more complete and detailed list, there is a link in the sources below. This link does only cover the basic, more religious types of magick.

About the witch/Wiccan confusion, a witch is not always a Wiccan, and a Wiccan is not always a witch. There are Wiccans that are witches, which is the majority of them but some find the term witch offensive. And, there are some witches who are Wiccan, but this is less than the Wiccans that are witches.

About magick, there is white, black and grey or neutral magick. Black is obviously using negative energies and white is positive while grey or neutral magick has no clear definition or positive or negative. Much of magick is about the state of mind the user is in. If you don’t believe in it, the spell is not going to work. Much the same if you don’t believe in God but prey to the nothingness you believe is in Heaven, then your prayer will not be successful.

About Christian witches, you can be a Christian and a witch, but many of those that follow the Bible to the “t” usually are against magick. Others believe that magick is just another way of getting closer to God.

Yes Witches are real and there are Satanic witches, however, not all witches worship satan and even most satanic witches don’t worship satan (this is dependent upon their type of satanism). I have known several witches who held a strong Christian faith. A witch is any individual who practices witchcraft. We are not all “evil” as many would have you believe. I personally am far from evil, and I use my gifts and talents as well as knowledge to help others because they need it.

Also, the actual term Witch wasn’t added into the bible until King James during one of the translations of the bible. There was a specific verse from Exodus 22:18 that states “thou shalt not suffer a witch to live” however, this is a mis-translation. It was originally ” Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live”. The other verse about witches is: Deuteronomy 18:10-11 (NIV)” Let no one be found among you… who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or cast spells, or who is a medium or spiritist.” Originally it just stated everything except witchcraft, as witchcraft wasn’t the original term used. Because of the many translations of the bible and the actual fact that the bible is incomplete due to the council of Nicea, who found many books to not be worth the control factor, there were several books that actually did deal with certain aspects of different forms of spiritualism. An example is from the Gospel of Mary Magdalene that was found with the Dead Sea Scrolls. Jesus confided in her and told her many things the other apostles were not privileged too, but in particular, he explained to her that when the body dies, before it goes to heaven or hell, the soul goes on a journey where it encounters both “demons” and “angels”.

Fear comes from a lack of understanding, which is also where hate comes from. It’s better to learn about your own religion and it’s history then the history of others, before you make a rash judgement. I hope this helps you some and that you find your way.

Here is a list of common misconceptions about Witches:

There is a belief that All Witches:
    -are not real
    -are all delusional
-are all suffering teenaged angst and rebellious
    -are evil
    -worship the Devil
    -worship trees, plants…nature in general
-worship planets, moons, suns and stars
    -are fat and social outcasts
    -are Wiccan
-adhere to the Wiccan Rede and/or Threefold Law
    -are pacifists
    -are vegetarians
    -are fluffy bunnies
    -possess “supernatural” powers
-use spells to do the impossible (transform into some fictional or fantastical creature; win the lottery; gain a boy/girlfriend; win a love back; fly, etc)
-That All Witchcraft is like Harry Potter or Charmed
-That TV/Movies/Books/Media portray Witchcraft 100% accurately
-That Witches are only true Witches if they are of a blood line
-That Witches are either Good or Bad or practice “White” or “Black” Witchcraft

The items listed are NOT true about the path of the Witch

Being a witch myself I have to say yes we do exist, though we do not worship satan. Yes witches can be christians, catholic, and any other church related religion. And if you want to know what a witch is well just like said before you’ll get a different answer every time you ask a different person. Though I would say we are people that are able to use the energy in which is given off different things at will. We are also people who mix different substances then adding energy to that substance by chanting specific words for different reasons (good or evil depending who you are). And we are people who are able to take specific parts of nature (Elements, animals, plants, etc.) and form it at will (if powerful enough). For example I have subtle control over fire, and also know what my totems are (animals you are souly connected to), which mine are the wolf and coyote and I also have a familiar (animal that makes your magic stronger) which is my black cat Rockie (got him when I was 6). Everyone is able to use minor bits of magic too, yet only some usually fully open that power. For example I found out I had specific powers when I started to see spirits and demons ( shadow demons which are shadowy supernatural spirit like beings, also completely evil). Again when we are young we all are able to see spirits though we block that out when we get older and start only believing in rational things. I got off topic sorry.. anyway what I’m saying is that magic is not completely bad and can be used to the extent of good unless you will it to be bad. And if they do that then it is their fault and they probably will be punished. Oh and I want to add that in many legends that I have read demons and magic users are enemies, especially with vampires. PS: If you want anymore info just get a book on otherkin ( though I COMPLETELY recommend Lupa’s book here). Hope I helped!

A witch refers to a practitioner of Wicca, or as I prefer, a Pagan. Yes we are real. No we are not evil. Why would we devote our lives to worshiping the bad guy of another religion? Paganism predates Christianity. The reason that particular part is in the Bible is because of a well-known King – King James I. He was terrified of witches. At the time of his reign, the Bible was being transcribed and mass-produced for the public in English. Until that time, it was written mainly in Latin, and could not be read by the common Englishman.

Witches are real. They don’t even believe in Satan, let alone worship him. The Bible was altered by King James…he put in the part about witches. We know because we have the earlier versions, which talk about not suffering a poisoner to live instead of a witch. They are not evil, in fact they believe that anything they do comes back to them 3 fold. Witches use energy to influence the world around them. And yes, there are an increasing number of Christian/pagans out there. I happen to be one.

*Simple Answer: Yes, witches are real. No, they do not worship Satan.
Witches is a religion basically called “Wicca”. According to the Wicca religion, witches do not worship Satan they use elements (Earth, Fire, Wind, Water) basically.
According to the bible, yes, witches are evil and everything thing else that basically doesn’t worship God is considered evil because (according to the Bible) God is good and the light and you have God and anything else that isn’t about God is evil and basically has to do with Satan.
I hope this makes sense to you.

Yes witches are real. No I have never met one that worshiped Satan as most witches are not Christian and therefore do not believe in God or Satan.
Yes you can be a witch and be Christian. I know several Christian witches. No they do not worship Satan either.
What exactly is a witch is an extremely complex answer, but to simplify for you I will say that a witch recognizes Magick and its flow, weather they PRACTICE it or not.

Not possible to say who or what ALL witches worship..i worship nothing or no one myself. That’s simply not what witchcraft is about for me, cant speak for anyone else though.
A witch is a practitioner of the craft of the witch..witchcraft.

Witches are very real and few worship Satan or Christ but they are about.
Satan was invented to create an anti-Christ.
I find it remarkable that Jesus is said to have done things like make a couple of loaves and a few fish feed 5000 people, that would sort of thing would have had anyone else executed for Witchcraft for many centuries.
Are miracles and Magic two different things?
